Thirteen schools in Matugama Education Zone have commenced to teach science, mathematics and citizenship education in English medium to Grade Six students from this year.
Up to last year, of the students of the zone, only the students of C.W.W.Kannangara Central School were able to receive education in English medium.
The schools that have commenced bilingual education in Matugama zone are Ananada Shastralaya National School, St Mary’s College, Mihindu Central College, Kamburawala Isuru School, Walallawita M.V., Colvin R de Silva M.V., Omatta K.V., Girikola Gunarathana K.V., Yatadola K.V., Udawela Piyarathana M.V., Horawala M.V., Bopitiya K.V., Walagedara M.V. and Udugama K.V.
